John Stoa
Scottish artist John Stoa's love for art was ignited in his childhood, as he found joy in adding colour to black and white images in his storybooks. His father's support played a significant role in fostering this interest, providing him with art supplies and even repurposing frames from purchased paintings for Stoa's creations. The sale of his first original painting at the Darlington Art Society Annual Exhibition in 1980 marked a turning point for Stoa, sparking a passion that led him to become a full-time artist.
Stoa, primarily self-taught, persistently explores the intricacies of colour, light, tone, and composition in his work. His subjects are diverse, encompassing urban and rural scenes, floral and figurative depictions, snowscapes, summer landscapes, boats, Scottish castles, still life, and pets.
Stoa has published several limited edition prints and regularly exhibits his recent works at his Original Art studio in Dundee. Additionally, he is an active member of the Broughty Ferry Art Society and the Dundee Art Society, where his work is frequently displayed.
